We have a cottage on a white sand beach here in Maine. The wild beach rose grows naturally here in the sandy soil. Big broad flat petals to catch the light welcome the bees in spring some white flowers some pink flowers a center of yellow. Beach roses are found along the Atlantic seaboard brought back by Clipper Ship sea captains from China in the 1800s. They first settled in seaside New England gardens then jumped to beaches and island. Sea roses are as much a part of the New England landscape as any flower you will ever find. They are successful because they grow like weeds.
